Preparing Your Android App for Updates

Before you can update your Google Play Store app, there are a few things you must do before building your app, and that is to update the VersionCode and VersionName of your app.

Once you've done that, you can now build your app. Make sure you use the .jks key store file you've generated as well as the proper passwords that you used when you first built the first public release of your application. This will be necessary in order for you to successfully update the app.

How to Update Your Android App in Google Play Store

After Android Studio finishes building .apk file, head on over to your Google Play Store Publisher Dashboard. Click on the app that you are going to be updating.

  1. Click APK
  2. Click the "Upload New APK to Production" button
  3. Browse and Upload Your Updated APK file
  4. Enter in Your Details and Changes
  5. Once finished, Click "Publish Now to Production"
