Eric Liang

Front-End Web Developer | Aspiring Full Stack Web Developer

Hi! My name is Eric Liang, I’m a Front-End Web Developer, aspiring Full Stack Web Developer. I enjoy coming up with new portfolio and ideas to work on by utilizing my 7+ years of experience in web development to make it happen. I also run my own YouTube channel!

Background

I graduated with a Bachelor's in Computer Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona, Class of (June) 2017. Despite this, my main passion lies in Web Development, which is something I've been learning and doing since high school during my free time.

As a Web Developer, I enjoy merging the worlds of design, development, business, and marketing together. My goal is to someday become a Senior Full Stack Web Developer who creates awesome and useful web applications to improve people's life.

When I'm not coding, I usually keep updated on web design and development, learn about digital marketing, read books on business, productivity, and self-improvement, and working on my life goals (super big goals).

If you’re looking for someone who is goal-oriented, self-driven, honest and truthful, and extremely self-motivated without having to rely on caffeinated beverages, you should consider letting me be a part of your team.

Portfolio

Goal Striver
A startup project I Co-Founded with my friend. Goal Striver is a goals-based to-do list app that allows people to set goals and their daily to-dos from the corresponding mobile application. The website was designed using Adobe Photoshop, and developed using HTML, CSS, Javascript on top of Node.js, ExpressJS, Bootstrap, and utilizes MongoDB as its database. The website first started out as a PHP website, but eventually I changed it to Node.js for performance and scalability purposes. I also designed the logo and was responsible for all marketing activities and business planning. :)

MaxRep Fitness Tracker
A startup project I Co-Founded with 6 other classmates for a course on Entrepreneurship. MaxRep Fitness Tracker is a bluetooth device that can track the number of sets, reps, and has a built in weightlifting plan built in. Data is collected and sent to a Android App to display the collected data back to the user. I was responsible for designing and developing the Android Application, which utilizes Realm.io for its database, and also designed and developed the main website using HTML, CSS, Node.js, ExpressJS, Bootstrap, and MongoDB.

Personal Website DEC2017
The motivation behind this iteration of my personal website, is that I decided it was time for me to transition away from Wordpress due to the constraints set by the framework. The website that you see before you is custom made. I wanted a personal website where I can properly brand myself, yet have the features I wanted to scale the website in a modular way that would support a shop feature, a blog feature, as well as a course feature.

FAQs

Why don't you consider yourself a Full Stack Web Developer, even though you've used Node.js, etc.?
The reason is I started out as a Front End Web Developer, and had the most experience with it. As far as Node.js and back-end related tasks goes, I don't have that much experience with it, so I don't think I deserve the title of "Full Stack Web Developer" just yet. I don't mind performing Backend Web Development tasks, it's just that I prefer to have more exposure to different scenarios first, successfully tackling them, and then I will consider myself as a true Full Stack Web Developer.
Do you have trouble working with non-technical people?
I don't, I actually enjoy working with them. In fact, my job at American Creative Team, almost everyone was not as tech-savvy, and they all came from different backgrounds. I find it fun and interesting trying to communicate technical concepts to people who are less familiar with the technical side of things, which is one of my key selling points for my C++ programming video series on my YouTube channel. My fans love how I explain code in a way that's super easy for the beginner to | understand. I would always challenge myself to beat my past record, and keep improving. Also, I love learning about business and marketing! After all, it's not "if you build it they will come", it's "if you market a product or service where there's a real need, then they might come."
Are you interested in possibly freelancing or in a short term ( <= 3 months ) contract position?
Unfortunately, I am only interested in a full time position as a web developer, preferably in Southern California (unless you are willing to help me relocate :) ). The only exception I can make for freelancing or short term contract position is if you let me work remotely. As for part time to full time transition, that will have to depend how long we're talking about. I have student loans and other expenses to pay off, I'm sure you understand.
